Second gallery:
ELAINE LUSTIG COHEN
Tea House Suite

March 28 - May 4, 2002

In the second gallery we will exhibit a series of eight new collages by Elaine Lustig Cohen entitled Tea House Suite, our third solo exhibition of her work. The series was inspired by a group of antique Japanese postcards she found in Europe, and developed into watercolor paintings with collage elements which include the postcards, Japanese papers, and even fragments of an etching she printed many years ago. They are larger in scale than her previous works, and display a sensual calligraphy in the rendering of richly patterned swirling kimonos. Lustig Cohen is known for her work as an artist and graphic designer, with eighteen solo exhibitions since 1970 including John Bernard Myers Gallery, Mary Boone Gallery, Exit Art and Cooper-Hewitt in New York.
