Press Release Checklist Second Gallery Orit Raff Hunt-the-Slipper Video 1:20 projected in a loop March 5- April 10, 2004 We are pleased to announce the exhibition/screening of Orit Raff's Hunt-the-Slipper, 2001 video, which was shown at the Todd Hosfelt Gallery in San Francisco, and in the solo exhibition of the same name at the Ramat Gan Museum in Israel, but has not been seen in New York. A selection of her still photographic work will be shown in conjunction with the video. The video refers to the children's game called "jeu du furet" in French which is translated into ˛Hunt the SlipperÓ in English as a metaphor for transformation, duality, concealment and revelation. Raff is interested in the meaning of ferret (as explored by French psycho-analyst Lacan), an animal which possesses all kinds of real and imaginary qualities- and its metaphorical transformation into the English name involving the slipper, which she plays out in the endless loop of the video narrative. The critic and art historian Johanna Burton has written extensively on Raff, and specifically about this work. To access these texts please look at are our website www.saulgallery.com under Orit Raff/further info. This is Orit Raff's third exhibition at Julie Saul Gallery. Born in Jerusalem in 1970, Raff lives between New York and Israel. She studied at Bezalel academy, School of Visual Arts, The Whitney Independent Study Program and received her MFA from Bard College in 2002. She has exhibited internationally, and her work has been written about extensively.
