1954 Moved to grey blue hard sizzling New York City

1954-1971 Grew up, played ping pong, played the piano, danced, went to the High School of Music and Art went to NYU and wrote a lot of bad poetry

1972-1986 Editorial illustrator for many publications in house muse for M&co the Design Studio founded by Tibor Kalman designing album covers, film titles, products and much more. 10.!.4 watch becomes part of permanent design collection of Museum of Modern Art, N.Y. crumpled paper paper weight - ditto

1986 First children's book. collaborate with David Byrne. Illustrate "Stay Up Late" from Talking Heads Little Creatures album

1987-present Author/illustrator of a dozen children's books including Hey Willy, See the Pyrmaids, Max Makes a Million, What Pete Ate and Fireboat: the Heroic Adventures of the John J. Harvey. "Fireboat" told the story of a decommissioned fireboat that fought the fires of 9/11

Cover artist for the New Yorker most notable cover in collaboration with Rick Meyerowitz "NewYorkistan"

Contributing Art/Editorial for the New York Times, interview, departures, travel and leisure and many others

President of M&co. products distributed by the Museum of Modern Art

Designed a line of bags and dog/person rain gear for Kate Spade

Created sets for Mark Morris Dance group production of Four Saints in Three Acts. An opera by Gretrude Stein and Virgil Thompson

Winner of numerous awards too numerous to mention except for being a finalist in the National Design Awards 2002.

Maira Kalman lives in New York and enjoys the occasional excursion to Bayonne or Hanoi.
